William DEARING was born on 23 Jan 1851 in Okehampton, Devon, England. William Dearing was the sixth child of Edward Dearing and Mary Sutton. He was listed as a child in the 1851 census with his family. He was about the age of three or four when he migrate d with his family to America. He spent his childhood on his father's farm in Trafalgar township, Ontario. He met Violet Morrison in Elk Rapids, Michigan while either visiting his sister Martha Head or he had moved to Elk Rapids to live. William married Violet Morrison in 1875 in Elk Rapids. William's family is listed in thew 1880 census of Michigan with three children all having been born in Canada. The vital records of Ontario list the birth record for Clara, the second child of William and Violet. Clara was born in Erin township, Wellington county, Ontario, Canada which is the same place where William's parents were living. In the 1900 census, the William Dearing family is living in Elk Rapids with five more children. Violet was listed as the head of the household and William was not listed. It is unknown where he might have been. There is no record of either William or Violet Dearing's death. William's youngest son, Duncan, had an obituary that was found in some genealogical records in Detroit. It listed Duncan Morrison Dearing dying in 1947 leaving a wife Bess and his two sisters June Dearing and Margaret Bruce. In the 1920 census of Michigan under the name of William Bruce. We find William's children Martha, Margaret, Clara and their families living together along with their youngest brother Duncan Morrison Dearing.
