DEARING, EDWARD Edward Dearing was b. 1815 in Devonshire, England and d. 1891, age 76. In 1854 he emigrated to New York, and in 1867 he came to Erin Tp. and settled on 100 acres, lot 30, con. 5. He brought very little money with him, and his family followed him after he had made a home for them. He was a man of strong personality, and very successful. He was a Methodist and a Conservative. He m. Mary Sutton, who d. 1888, age 74. Issue: Edward, in the United States; John (d.), Mrs. John Hughes (d.), Mich.; Mrs. Thomas Head, Oregon; Mrs. William Walker, Ill.; William and Thomas. William, m. Violet Morrison, and settled in Michigan. Thomas succeeded to the homestead of 100 acres, and has since bought an additional 100 acres, lot 3,1, con. 4. He carries on mixed farming, and has a lot of high grade cattle. He feeds cattle for export, and deals very extensively in hogs. He has a beautiful farm, highly cultivated, and feeds all of the grain raised upon it. He is highly respected, and a thoroughly good citizen. He belongs to the English church and is a Conservative. In 1896 he was elected Councillor and sat until 1900, and was re-elected in 1903. In 1904 he was elected Reeve and again in 1905, each election being contested. He m.
