She was born March 8, 1914, in Selma and had lived in Monterey County since 1936. Mrs. Whelchel attended Fresno State University and came to the Monterey Peninsula as the wife of pianist and popular entertainer George Myette, who died in 1949. With her mother and sisters, she founded and operated the Carmel Restaurant and Delicatessen on Ocean Avenue in Carmel from 1938 to 1962. From 1962 to 1992, she was in real estate sales, first with the firm of Cross and Foster and subsequently with Chris Bock Real Estate. An avid gardener, she was well known for her rose garden, and also enjoyed traveling and playing tennis, bridge and golf. She was an active member of All Saints Church in Carmel and served on its vestry for many years. She is survived by her daughter, Renée Bronson of Carmel. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at All Saints Church in Carmel. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to SPCA of Monterey County, P.O.
