Edward Borst Sr. of Corning died Feb. 24, 1910. He was born in the town of Erwin, a son of Harry J. & Anna VanDeBoe Borst, age 69-10-20. Survived by his wife, one dau. Mrs. George W. Daniels of Coudersport; four sons Edward Borst, a musician; G. Harvey Borst of Corning; S. H. & Adelbert Borst of Galeton, Pa. ------------------------------------------------ There is an Corporal Edward S. Borst, Co.(Troop) B, 5th NY Cavalry, Union Army, who fought during the Civil War. It is not clear if this is the same Edward Borst. ---------------------------------------------- Noted in the 1880 US Federal Census as living in Erwin, Steuben Cty., NY with his wife Georgia, age 34, Adelbert, age 16, Sidney, age 14, Flora age 11, Edmond age 7, and George, age 5. Edward, age 40 was working in a saw mill at the time. ----------------------------------------------- [New York, Steuben County, Roll 1163 Book 2, Page 46 and 46a] Noted in the 1900 Federal Census as living at age 60, in Corning Twp., Steuben County, NY, with his wife Georgianna, age 53, and his sons Edward, Jr., age 27, and [George] Harvey, age 25. Edward Borst occupation listed as Millwright. Margaret Walton, age 20, noted as a servant living in the household. George Harvey Borst later marries a Marguerite Walton. Grandson Robert, age 13, also living with Edward and Georgianna. This is most likely son Adelbert and Bertha Albro's son.
