Walter W. Colby The Malone Farmer, August 10, 1932 Walter W. Colby, died suddenly at his home on Assembly street Saturday evening, July 30th. He had been in failing health for over a year and had suffered numerous heart attacks recently. He married Miss Esther Mary Tavernier of Chateaugay 53 years ago last January and they came to this village 51 years ago and lived in the same house continuously since that time. To them were born nine children: Frank H. of Massena; Ross of Norfolk; Miss Clara of Boston; Mrs. Grace Martin of Norfolk; Fredie of Norfolk; Silas R., Leon and Lena Cummings of this village and Willie who died at the age of 18. There are also eighteen grandchildren: Freeman, Mary, Jesse, Gertrude and Silas R. children of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Colby; Walter, Kenneth and William, children of Ross Colby; Earl, Paul and Pauline, children of Mr. and Mrs. Fredie Colby; Pearl and Percy Colby, childrenof Mr. and Mrs. Silas Colby and Eugene Harry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cummings. The two great grandchildren are June C. Bogart and Warren Colby, children of Mary Colby Bogart and husband and Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Colby. He also leaves one brother, Henry Colby of this village. Mr. Colby was the son of Walter C. (note: his father is Silas) and Julia Peck Colby of Chateaugay. He worked at his trade of paper hanger and painting for a while after coming to this village and then began work in what is now "The Agricultural Works" being employed there until poor health, caused him to retire about two two years ago. The funeral services were held Tuesday morning at St. Patrick's R. C church of which he was a faithful member. A requiem, high mass was celebrated by Rt. Rev. Msgr. C J. Crowley, burial in St. Patrick's R. C. cemetery beside his son, Willie. |
