Western Lane NFL
Pool Rules and Directions:
(updated
9/12/21)
1.
$5 for each entry, play as many times each week as you like. There 18
weeks to the regular season this year, so total payment ($90) prior to the
start of the season is preferred (but not required). If that is a problem
you can pay as you go weekly or periodically. I won’t carry anyone for
more than 2 weeks (or $10). If you’re 3 weeks behind (or $10
behind) your entry won’t be included until you catch up.
2.
Thursday night game(s) (except for Thanksgiving) are not included to allow more
time for players to submit their picks. We play all Saturday & Thanksgiving
games.
3. This
year only the Online Form will be used to submit your entries. Go to
the web site (www.deloriahurst.com/NFL) and choose the online form from the
home page, then click on each team you want to win, fill in the total tiebreak
scores, add your name, email and telephone number, copy the security check
letters (if required), then click “SUBMIT”. You will receive an email
version of your form, delivered to the email address you provided when filling
out the form.
4.
The player with the most correct picks for the week wins. If there are 38
or more entries for a given week, payout will be 75% for 1st place, and 25% for
2nd place (rounded up to the nearest dollar). If there are 43 or more
entries for a given week, payout will be 65% for 1st place, 25% for 2nd place,
and 10% for 3rd place. These payouts will be calculated after the weekly
total wins pot amount is deducted (see rule 10).
5.
In case of a tie (first, second, or third place), at the bottom of the form, write
in the total points (add together the amount you think will be scored by both
teams) you think will be scored during the Monday Night and Sunday
Night (or designated) games. If needed, these will be used as the
tie-breakers (see below). NOTE: YOUR TOTAL POINTS ENTRY IS THE TOTAL
POINTS (both teams scores added together) YOU BELIEVE WILL BE SCORED WITHOUT
GOING OVER THE ACTUAL TOTAL (if the total score is lower than the lowest tied
player’s choice, then the lowest tied player wins. If there is more than one or
no Sunday/Monday night game then I will annotate the games to be used as the
tie breakers. Here is the
tie breaker scheme in order of precedence:
- Tie breaker #1 - just like in the past, we will use the total point score
from the Monday night game;
- Tie breaker #2 – Total score from the Sunday night game.
- Tie breaker #3 - Monday night win, if there is still a tie and you're one of
them, and you picked a loser in the Monday night game(s) you are out;
- Tie breaker #4 - Sunday night win, if there is still a tie after the
first three tie breakers, if you pick a loser in the Sunday night game(s),
you're out.
If there is
still a tie after the tie breakers are invoked, the money for that place will
be split among the tied entries.
6.
If an entry arrives without a pick for any of the games, and I cannot contact
the player for that entry, those games will be listed as a loss after the start
of the game(s) in question (that’s why it is important to supply your email
address and telephone number). If an
entry is missing the total score for the Monday night tie-breaker, and I cannot
contact the player for that entry, there will be no total score entered into
the tie-breaker and those tied entries with scores will be ranked above that
entry in any tie break situation.
7.
10% of the total pot will be set aside each week. The top three
players with the most wins at the end of the regular season will split this pot
60%-25%-15% (rounded to the nearest $). If you play more than once on any
particular week, only the first submitted entry (based on the entry
submission time) will count toward the season total.
8. If there are multiple games played on Sunday
or Monday night, the latest of these games will be used for the total wins
race.
9.
Return entries using the online form as early in the week as possible, but
no later than the start of the first game. Entries need to be submitted
prior to the start of the first game for the relevant week - entries submitted
after the start of Thanksgiving, Saturday, or London games will receive a loss
for the games already in progress – entries can still be submitted for the
remainder of the games.
10.
I will send spreadsheet(s) tracking everyone's picks as soon as possible on
Thanksgiving, Saturday or Sunday (I will try to get them out as close to game
time as I can). The Players Spreadsheet, the Money Mgt. Spreadsheet, and
the Total Wins rankings will be placed on the pool’s web site at
www.deloriahurst.com/NFL and updated throughout the day Sunday, Monday and
Tuesday mornings.
11.
The player who has played all 18 weeks and finishes the season in last place
(among all those who have played all 18 weeks) will receive the first 5 weeks
free for the next season (2020-21). If you haven’t played all 18 weeks,
you will not be eligible for this award.
12.
If you miss one or more week(s), and then play again, you will be awarded a
score of 1 less than the lowest score attained by all players for the week
previous to your restart. You are only allowed two such awards
during the season.
13.
New players starting after the season has begun will receive wins for the week
previous to their start equal to 1 less than the lowest score for the previous
week (this will count as one of your two misses - see rule 12)
14.
Again this year, as (if) we approach the end of regular season you must
use or lose excess $$. This means that, if you have $$ left over at the end of
the season, they will not be refunded. I will add them to the total wins
pot. You can submit multiple entries each week, but only the first
submitted entry will be used for the season total wins race.
15. If
anyone gets more than $5 in arrears (that means I will only spot you $10), then
their subsequent entries will not be included until they make up the
deficit. Additionally, if money is owed and a player is kept from
playing due to late payment, that player is no longer eligible for the lowest
total wins prize.
